Females continue traditional crafts of using a straw to make baskets and hats around the bigger Caicos islands. It can be done that this continued custom is relevant to the liberated Africans who joined the population straight from Africa within the 1830s and 1841 from shipwrecked slavers; they introduced cultural craft competencies with them.[23]:
